How to spot a fake review online

No one likes to be taken for a fool, or waste hard-earned cash on a bad product – and yet, according to consumer watchdog Which?, many of us are being taken in by fake reviews on Amazon.

As the resident technology tester for Telegraph Recommended, I know these reviews well because I spend a lot of time trawling through them. Looking at what consumers are saying about a certain product can be a useful way of supplementing the hands on testing that I conduct. It can shed light on aspects of a product that I may have missed, or defects that only make themselves known after months of use – longer than I can test for.
